Location and nearby attractions:
Trastevere is one of the few neighborhoods in Rome that maintains its distinct charm and character. Attracting artists, musicians, and bohemian spirits from the world over, Trastevere also is home to many great restaurants, artesian vendors, quaint shops and lively pubs.
Trastevere is well connected by the #8 Tram which runs quite frequently along Viale di Trastevere (walk down Vicolo della Torre, make a left onto Via della Lungaretta, and continue onto Viale di Trastevere and the tram). Take this toward “Argentina” to Largo Torre Argentina, one of the main bus stops in Rome. From here, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountan, and Piazza Navona are well within walking distance.
You may also choose to walk to the nearby Campo de` Fiori. From Via Riari, make a left onto Via della Lungara until it meets with the Lungotevere (which runs along the Tiber River). Turn right here and continue until Ponte Sisto. Cross this bridge and continue walking straight until Via de Giubbonari. Turn left and continue onto Campo de` Fiori.
To get to the Trevi Fountain, walk from Via dei Riari toward Via della Lungara. Turn left and cross the nearby Ponte Mazzini. Just over this bridge on Via San Fillippo Neri, take the #116 (toward Porta Pinciana). Exit after 7 stops at De` Burro. From here, it is only a short walk down Via delle Muratte and finally the Trevi Fountain. Exit after eight stops for the Spanish Steps.
To reach Vatican City, cross Ponte Mazzini (see above for futher directions) and take the #23 bus (toward Clodio). Exit after two stops at Traspontina/Conciliazione and walk down Via della Conciliazione – a great view of the Cupola.
To visit the Colosseum, walk from Via dei Riari toward Via della Lungara. Turn left and continue to reach the Lungotevere della Farnesina. From here take the #271 bus (toward Viale di San Paolo). Exit after 8 stops at Celio Vibenna.
To get to the Spanish Steps (though it may be easier to walk from the Trevi Fountain – Via del Corso to Via dei Condotti), you may also want to try walking from Via dei Riari toward Via della Lungara. Turn left and cross the nearby Ponte Mazzini. Just over this bridge on Via San Fillippo Neri, take the #116 (toward Porta Pinciana). Exit after eight stops at Largo Chigi. From here, take the #119 bus (toward Corso/Popolo) for 4 more stops. Exit at the Spanish Steps. Or, stay on until the end of the line for Piazza del Popolo and Villa Borghese.
