Only a few steps from your apartment, you’ll find yourself in the midst of Rome’s historic center, face to face with the renowned Trevi Fountain. Simply walk down Via in Arcione that leads into Via della Lavoratore and the Piazza di Trevi. Once the site of an original Roman aqueduct and the backdrop of Federico Fellini’s Dolce Vita, the legendary Trevi can help you ensure your safe return to Rome – just throw a coin over your shoulder in to the fountain.
To arrive at the Pantheon, simply walk from the Trevi Fountain down Via delle Muratte (the street name changes a few times as you continue). [NOTE: Via delle Muratte will cross Via del Corso, an important road to remember since many buses leave from here]. Within a few minutes, you will reach Piazza della Rotonda and the Pantheon. From here, Piazza Navona and Campo de’ Fiori are only a short walk away.
To find your way to Piazza Venezia, turn left at the intersection between Via del Corso and Via delle Muratte, and walk toward the unmistakable Monument to Victor Emanuel II, the first king of Italy.
To arrive at the Imperial Forum and the Colosseum, take the #175 bus from Via del Tritone (toward Partigiani) for 7 stops. Exit at Celio Vibenna. Walk along Via dei Fori Imperiali from the world-famous arena, the Colosseum, to arrive at the ancient Imperial Forum.
To get to Vatican City, take the #62 bus from Via del Corso (toward Borgo S. Angelo). Exit after 8 stops at Corridori.
To reach the bohemian neighborhood of Trastevere take the #63 bus from Via del Corso (toward Corso/Minghetti) for two stops. Exit at Largo Torre Argentina, a main bus stop in Rome. From here, take the #8 tram (toward Casaletto) for three stops.
One can easily walk to the Spanish Steps, but if you’d prefer to take the bus, take the #119 bus from Via del Tritone (toward Corso/Popolo). Exit after three stops at Piazza di Spagna.
Where to Eat & Drink – Rome is filled with thousands of great restaurants, but here are a few great places nearby your apartment:
Café = Rosati is a great place to sit at outside tables and people watch. Located in the grandiose Piazza del Popolo, there is always a lot of activity. Stop in for a cappuccino or an aperitivo in the early evening. Piazza del Popolo 5/a, tel 06 322-5859
For Lunch or Dinner = Matricianella is a relaxed, informal trattoria not far from Piazza di Spagna is a convenient stop before or after a shopping spree on the boutique strip of Via Condotti. The menu champions local traditions in dishes such as rigatoni all'amatriciana (with pancetta and tomato), saltimbocca alla romana (thin veal slices with prosciutto and sage), and carciofi alla giudia (fried artichokes). Drinks = At the end of the day, or even for lunch, head for ‘Gusto, just off Via del Corso. It’s a foodie’s haven taking a entire square-block with a restaurant, osteria, wine bar, and cookware and cookbook shop. The wine bar offers live Jazz on Thursday evenings.
