Just a short walk up Via XXVI Maggio, you’ll find yourself on one of the original seven hills of Rome, Quirinal Hill, which boasts a breathtaking view of the Vatican and all of Rome. In addition, here you’ll find the Quirinal Palace, the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic and historically, before 1871, the official residence of the Pope.
To arrive at the Imperial Forum and the Colosseum, simply walk down Via XXVI Maggio onto Via Magnanapoli. You will pass Trojan’s Market, the large tower and forum once used by ancient Roman vendors selling oil, wheat, wines, etc. Finally, walk along Via dei Fori Imperiali view the ancient Imperial Forum and the world-famous arena, the Colosseum.
To reach Piazza Navona, famous for its fountains and artists, walk toward via Nazionale and take the 64 bus (toward Piazza Stazione San Pietro). Exit after 4 stops. From here, Campo de Fiori, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and the bohemian neighborhood of Trastevere will all be within walking distance (about 15 minutes).
To visit Vatican City, simply walk toward Via Nazionale and take the 40 bus (toward Piazza Pia/Castel Di Sant’Angelo) for five stops. Exit at Traspontina/Conciliazione and continue by foot down Via della Conciliazione – a great view of the Cupola.
To get to the Spanish Steps, walk down Via Nazionale to where it crosses with Via Milano and make a left. From here take the 117 (toward Corso/Popolo) for three stops. Or continue to the end of the line to visit Piazza del Popolo or Villa Borghese, one of Rome’s most beautiful parks.
